ADMINISTRATION OF PROMETRIUM PROGESTERONE CAPSULES

Always take progesterone capsules exactly as your doctor has told you. If in doubt, consult a medical professional.

The recommended doses must be absolutely respected.

The dose should not exceed 200 mg for each administration, independently of the indication and route of administration (oral or vaginal).

Oral use

On average, due to insufficient production of the hormone progesterone, the daily dose is 200-300 mg of progesterone.

It is recommended to take progesterone capsules between meals.

In case of insufficient production of progesterone by the ovary in the last phase of the cycle menstrual (luteal insufficiency), especially in premenstrual syndrome, diffuse nodularity

of the breasts (benign mastopathies), cycle alterations, premenopause, the daily dose is of 200-300 mg of progesterone, for a therapeutic cycle of 10 days, usually from the 17th to the 26th

including day of the cycle.

In postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy (HRT), estrogen monotherapy is not recommended due to the risk of thickening of the uterine lining (endometrial hyperplasia). The

progesterone should be administered at a dose of 200 mg per day for 12-14 days at month, or during the last two weeks of each therapeutic cycle.

HRT should be discontinued for about a week during which a vaginal bleeding may occur.

For these indications, in the case of liver disease and side effects due to progesterone (sleepiness after oral administration), vaginal use should be used as an alternative to oral use with the same doses.

Vaginal use

Insert each progesterone capsule deeply into the vagina.

As a supplement in the last phase of the menstrual cycle, post-ovulatory (luteal phase) during spontaneous or induced cycles, in case of reduced reproductive capacity or primary sterility or secondary, particularly in case of ovulation alteration, the daily dose recommended is 200-300 mg per day, starting on the 17th day of the cycle for 10 days, 4 of 6 consecutive. The treatment must be repeated, as soon as possible, in the absence of menstruation (amenorrhea) and confirmed pregnancy.

In case of miscarriage treatment or prevention of repeated miscarriages due to insufficient production of progesterone in the luteal phase, the recommended daily dose is 200-400 mg per day.

If you take more Prometrium than you should, notify your doctor immediately.

If you forget to take progesterone capsules Prometrium, do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten previous dose.

In this case the dose should be reduced or readjusted (for example: 1 capsule of 200 mg or 2 capsules of 100 mg at bedtime, for 12-14 days each cycle).
