Profhilo and Bioremodelling: How It Differs from Fillers and Skinboosters

Educational reading for licensed practitioners — not clinical or injection guidance.

Profhilo is often mislabelled — called a filler by some, a skinbooster by others. It is really its own category: bioremodelling. Understanding what that means explains both how it works and why it is used the way it is.

What Bioremodelling Is

Profhilo is made of stabilised hyaluronic acid combining high and low molecular weight HA, produced without traditional chemical cross-linking. Once injected, it does two things: it delivers intense hydration, and — as it slowly disperses — it acts on the tissue to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. That dual action, hydrate and remodel, is what the term "bioremodelling" describes.

How It Differs From a Filler

A dermal filler is cross-linked to hold its shape and stay put, adding volume and contour at the point of injection. Profhilo is the opposite by design: it is formulated to spread, not to hold a shape. It adds no contour and sculpts nothing. Its purpose is to improve the quality and firmness of the skin across an area, not to project a feature.

How It Differs From a Skinbooster

The distinction here is subtler. Classic skinboosters are micro-deposits of HA placed to hydrate — the emphasis is on water. Profhilo's stabilised HA is designed to disperse widely from a small number of points and to drive a stronger remodelling (collagen/elastin) response alongside hydration. In practice, skinboosters lead on hydration; bioremodelling adds a firmer, more structural quality improvement — the two overlap but are not identical.

The BAP Technique

Profhilo is typically delivered through a small number of defined bio-aesthetic points (BAP) — commonly five per side of the face — chosen so the product can spread safely across the target area from a few precise deposits. This low number of injection points, with high spread, is characteristic of the treatment and part of its appeal to patients wary of many injections.

Indications and Course

Profhilo suits skin showing early laxity, dullness and loss of firmness — the face, and also the neck, décolletage and hands. The standard protocol is two sessions about four weeks apart, with results building over the following weeks and maintenance typically a couple of times a year. It is frequently combined with other skin-quality tools rather than used alone.

Aftercare and Safety

Transient redness, swelling and small raised areas at the injection points are common and settle within a day or two. Standard injectable exclusions apply: hypersensitivity, pregnancy and lactation, active infection or inflammation at the site, and bleeding disorders.

The Takeaway

Profhilo is bioremodelling — stabilised HA that hydrates and stimulates collagen and elastin, spreading rather than filling. It is a distinct category from both fillers and classic skinboosters, and a cornerstone of a skin-quality plan. See it in context in the skin-quality guide, or browse the skinbooster range.
